Emoji in Unicode

Does someone out there knowns the reasoning behind adding emoji to Unicode? Was it simply a commercial company lobbing the consortium for them or is there a rational explanation behaind this move?

_ can think of a rational reason for the inclusion of symbols like 😑 or 😆. These symbols may be used for conveying the emotional state of the speaker. They can be used as a substitute for writing ‘I am similing while saying this.’

But _ don’t understand the inclusion of face skin variants, the inclusion of symbols like 🌮 or 🦄. Just what information do these symbols convey? What is that you learn by reading them? Do thse symbols convery anything at all? Are they even needed?

_ would call all these emoji a modern version of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Imainge a person 200 years from now, looking at them, trying to understand just what in the world they mean. Why were they wrtitten? What the author wanted to convey? What did the author wanted to convey by writing a 👯?
